Reconstructive science - my journey from graduation in dental technology, specialist commercial dental prosthetics, through to specialist training and working in the NHS

Learning Content
My training in dental technology (DT) will be familiar to many attending this conference. I graduated and progressed through a specialist commercial dental prosthetics laboratory, developing my practical skills and knowledge. The route to training in Reconstructive Science is unusual as it is not part of post graduate DT but is allied to health care science. The 3-year masters training programme leads to registration as a Clinical Scientist with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC). The programme is fully funded so your university course fees are covered, and you are paid while you train ‘on the job.’
