Educational pathways for dental technicians and CDTs
James Neilson will be speaking in the DTS Lecture Theatre at the Dental Technology Showcase (DTS) 2023 at the Birmingham NEC on 12 May. About his session entitled, “Education pathways for dental technicians and clinical dental technicians: Course options, career pathways and the incorporation of digital technology”, he says:
“There is an industry-wide shortage of technicians in the profession and recruitment is currently a big issue for lab owners. Labs are having to explore other methods of recruitment, with many moving to train their own staff to overcome shortfalls in the workforce.
“I will be discussing education pathways for dental technicians (DTs) and clinical dental technicians (CDTs) within the UK. I will provide an overview of the current education providers, the courses offered, the possible changes and challenges that lie ahead, and explore the suitability of the different courses for different experience levels. The session will also consider the challenges faced by education providers in the delivery of digital dental technology.”
Adding to this, James comments on his experience of DTS from previous years:
“DTS is a fantastic event that allows delegates to see emerging technologies and provides an opportunity to meet with both suppliers and opinion leaders. The event is fantastic for networking and meeting with colleagues old and new – it is great to be able to attend a dental event that is aimed at the whole dental team. DTS is also a great opportunity to obtain CPD hours.”
